Blowin’ through the jasmine in my mind…
I caught myself singing it. Is it just me, succumbing to these Walter Mitty moments more and more this winter? Humour me, let’s take a minute to just zone out of this persistent cold. I’m sure the warm breeze will revitalize you.
Here are some photos I took last summer. Now, imagine seeing…
A Pelican scratching its itch:
A deer playing peekaboo with you:
Mushrooms growing out of a tree:
A Chickadee take flight:
A white spider on a yellow flower:
Black butterflies on white flowers:
An angler fishing at dusk:
It’s February already, can spring be far behind?

I couldn’t pick a favorite — they’re wonderful. (Although, I’m admitting a fondness for that sweet doe!). We’re expecting another six inches today — seeing these pictures remind me that spring WILL come. Not soon enough, but it will.

Jeanie,
Actually we’re doing not that bad this year, better than some of your states. Just one more day to Downton, that’s consolation. π

We’re separated by 65 degrees this morning! I shivered on your behalf when I saw that. These are our “swing” months, though. Another strong cold front is due, and then another, and then a third – all in one week! So your photos are welcome for me, too. We get occasional warm temperatures, but it’s not really spring. Not yet.
I love the pelican, and the chickadee. Every time you capture birds in flight and their feathers, I’m just amazed. I must say, I always look forward to your Saturday snapshots!

Linda,
65 degrees! I know, we live in different worlds. But you know what, it’s not as bad as you’d imagine. I usually stay indoor… yeah, that’s the rub. Cabin fever. π

Don’t we all need some Walter Mitty zoned-out moments every now and then?

Michelle,
Thanks! It’s not that hard to capture them flying. I just point and shoot while they’re in mid air. When I come back home then I’ll see what I’ve got once I’ve uploaded them. Just luck and timing I guess.

Thanks, Ellen. Just in the right place at the right time, then point and shoot. All the best for your team at the Super Bowl tomorrow! π

Beautiful photos. I like the surprise of the white insect on the flower best, I think. Thank you for sharing these.

Some great pictures, the chickadee one is especially nice. Bring on spring! And I heard that song the other day and had it in my head the rest of the day! It was good to hear it again. π

Greg,
Welcome to the pond. Yes, that’s my fave photo too… just point and shoot, nothing to it. I didn’t even know what I’d captured until after I came home and uploaded on the computer. And yes, Summer Breezes is cool. π

I hope you’re right about spring being close. I looked at that first photo and thought how cold the pelicans must be. But then I adjusted my thinking to warm weather.

I am a cold-weather person (cold for Los Angeles, that is) but I can’t help but glory in spring’s rebirth and the high song of the birds, the hatchlings, the hidden nests!
I am very partial to the first photograph; I love seabirds, and nothing equals witnessing a pelican in flight. They’re pretty unique when they’re earthbound, too!
