Saturday Snapshot July 12: Love Is In The Air

At first I thought, “how interesting, two dragonflies piggybacking.” Not until I got home and loaded my photos did I realize what sort of sequence I’d shot:

  11. HI; love the photos but have never seen the phrase “piggybagging”. I grew up here in NJ & have always used & heard “piggybacking”. Surprised & amused that only 1 other poster used piggybacking. Unless you used it as a joke.

  12. Isn’t it funny how we’ll think one word and type another? It happens to me more often than you might think, and I don’t always catch it, either.

    Your photos are just marvelous. I don’t know if you care — it certainly doesn’t make any difference — but you may have damselflies here rather than dragonflies. They both belong to the order called Odonata, but there are some differences, like between butterflies and moths. The slender body of the damselfly is a clue, and they hold their wings differently than a dragonfly. Here’s an interesting little article.

    I get to see a good many of them, not only because I work around water, but because the silly creatures sometimes think shiny varnish IS water! I try to keep them from landing, for the sake of their feet as much as anything else. Who wants sticky feet?

    As for love in the air, oh, my. I have a poor, desperate boy pigeon outside my window who’s been dancing and dancing for the girls, and hasn’t yet gotten one to say “yes”. He’s going to wear himself out if things don’t move along!

      LOL… this is the first time I hear of damselflies. With them dipping into the varnish there must be lots of damsels in distress, or maybe one who’s trying to work. 😉 Thanks for the info.

      Here on Ripple you’re definitely much more likely to see dragonflies, damselflies, or whatever that flies than anything of the Kardashians. Rest assured. 😉
