Our summer is short. After a few weeks of record high temperatures, as August arrives, I can feel the cooler air creeping in.
At the Pond, August brings a harvest of berries and edible delights for the birds:
Here are some of the guests relishing Nature’s feast.
Forget about worms, these succulent fruits are tastier. The young Robin learns fast:
The American Goldfinch, bending over forward:
The Cedar Waxwing knows her etiquettes, always graceful and poised:
Among them all, I must say my favourite is the Yellow Warbler. They are not fond of berries, but there are lots to eat around here. I’m most grateful for their taste. Here’s why: Mosquitoes eat me; warblers eat mosquitoes. Simple as that.
What more, it’s no simple feat to sing with a mosquito in your mouth:
In a few weeks, the Warblers will be gone, and I’ll be capturing scenes of Autumn. Yes, that soon. But for now, I’ll feast on summer sights. So, eat to your heart’s content, my Warbler friend.

You’ve got the warbler thing aced! They’re beautiful birds, aren’t they? Oh, it’s so good to see what is happening at the pond. It’s been awhile. Love those berries. Glad you are getting a bit of cool after all your hot — but summer is short and I’m not ready for it to end!

Yes, is say the warblers are my faves. The temps have dropped by almost 10 degrees from last week. I can feel fall is in the air. Hope to see some migratory avian actions for more pictures.

Amazing shots of these birds taking a nibble! Love the yellow warbler for sure. I’ll encourage any bird or animal that eats mosquitoes. Bats eat them, too.

It’s astonishing to find you and Jeanie talking about fall already as we move into the height of summer, with the hottest temperatures yet and the ramping up of hurricane season. On the other hand, time is passing. It’s easier to see the young herons and such now, as they grow up, move out of their hidden places, and start leaning how to live in a larger world.
Your photos are so delightful. I’ve yet to see a warbler of any sort. These are beautiful — and your bird photos always capture special details. Of course, we have to wait for winter to see birds like robins and waxwings. They’ll be on the move soon enough — and we can’t wait for the cooler weather that will bring them!

I’ve never thought that our Robins and Waxwings are your winter birds. We sure inhabit very different environs. Yes, these few days are much cooler. But then we’re told we’ll get back to higher temps. later in the week. I sure don’t mind to extend summer a while longer. 🙂

I used a telephoto lens to draw the subject in, then I cropped them after uploading. So, they do seem closer. Actually they are farther away. It’s very hard to capture the warblers as they don’t ‘sit still’ longer than a few seconds. It’s my pleasure to share. Thanks for stopping by the Pond and throwing in your 2 pebbles. 🙂
