Today is Victoria Day, when we Canadians are indebted to Queen Victoria (1819-1901) for a nice, long weekend. For many, it marks the first camping trip of the year, a summer kick-off. Ironically, it’s usually a weekend with overnight frost and even snow. So the custom is, plant your garden only after Victoria Day.
To commemorate, I should be watching The Young Victoria. But, for all these years, I haven’t done anything Victorian on this day. I guess they did take long walks. So, I took a stroll along the Bow River. Just as the day, this is a leisurely post. Here are some sights I captured, yes again, with my pocket camera. They’re a bit more cheery than the Mother’s Day outing of the deer family. What a difference two weeks can make.

Your photos are beautiful! It looks as though the world dressed up for the holiday.
It’s amazing how quickly nature’s turnarounds come. I was in Galveston a month ago, and it was very nice, but slightly drab. When I returned this weekend, everything was in bloom and it was simply lovely.
I hope your frost and snow are gone, and I wish we had your water. We have mostly brownish water – not because of pollution, but because of all the rivers and bayous feeding into our bays and offshore waters. Sometimes, in summer, we’ll have the lovely clear water you show here, but only if its been very hot and very still so the sand and mud settle out. That “still and hot” present their own problems!
I hope your week is equally lovely!

No, not all gone yet… just look at what happened three days later. But, we’re glad to have the white stuff because that’s moisture for our gardens and crops.

Looks like a great day for a walk and for taking beautiful photos! We get our long weekend coming up. We did finally watch young Victoria and really enjoyed it. I was sad my husband and I never made it to the Victoria and Albert museum that was just around the corner from a hotel we stayed at in south Kensington a few years back…

O yes, V and A Museum, I missed that one too… there were just too many sites to see. But then again, it’s not too hard to make another trip back there.
